Forex lot size explained: how lots and rebates are calculated

Updated 26 October 2026 · 4 min read

Cashback is paid per lot, so it helps to know exactly what a lot is and how your volume is counted.

Standard, mini and micro lots

LotSizeUnits (forex)
Standard1.00100,000
Mini0.1010,000
Micro0.011,000

For gold (XAUUSD), one standard lot is usually 100 ounces.

How volume is counted for rebates

A lot counts once it is opened and closed. Opening and closing 1.00 lot is one lot. Ten trades of 0.10 lots each also add up to one lot. Rebates are calculated on closed trades only.

Example

If you trade 2.00 lots of EURUSD per day for 20 trading days, that is 40 lots a month. At up to $1.40 per lot, that is about $56 back for the month on major pairs.

Why does the rebate differ by instrument?

Brokers pay partners different commissions for currencies, metals, indices, energies and crypto. A cashback provider passes on part of what it receives, so per-lot rebates are highest on major currency pairs and lower on instruments where the broker pays less.
